The profound medium ((sa) madhya); the universal life essence, the absolute, the (sa) bhūtatathatā which expresses the unity of all things, i.e. the doctrine held by Tiantai as distinguished from the [lang id =1028]別教 which holds the (sa) madhya doctrine but emphasizes the dichotomy of the [lang id =1028]空 transcendental and [lang id =1028]假 phenomenal.
